A California appeals court recently held that Amazon is liable for defective products sold on its website.

The California Fourth District Court of Appeals found that Amazon could be sued for injuries caused by defective products sold by 3rd parties on its website. The Plaintiff, Angela Bolger, was injured when a laptop battery purchased from a 3rd party seller exploded in her lap.

For years, Amazon has fought that they should not be liable for 3rd party sellers. Today, that changed.

While this ruling will only apply to California, it is expected to have reaching effects on Amazon and 3rd party liability.
