Managing Attorney/Operations Manager

Job Description:

Baxley Maniscalco Law Office is seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Attorney to oversee legal operations, drive profitability, and ensure exceptional client satisfaction. This leadership role requires strategic planning, budget management, and process optimization to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.

Join the Firm’s management team as the leader of Baxley Maniscalco’s legal operations. Develop and oversee attorney/paralegal teams, including active participation as lead counsel in all cases beyond the experience level of the associate team member. Pursue excellence in work product and client satisfaction. Form and implement a strategy to increase revenue and control the costs of providing legal services to achieve firm profitability goals. Act as first-chair attorney on matters involving novel, complex, or high-value litigation.

Job Responsibilities:

Managing Attorney

  • Supervise attorneys, paralegals, and support staff across family law, personal injury, and probate litigation cases.
  • Monitor case progress to ensure a timely and successful resolution.
  • Provide legal guidance and quality assurance to maintain compliance and ethical standards.
  • Ensure clients receive exceptional service and maintain a high satisfaction rate.
  • Monitor client feedback and implement improvements where necessary.
  • Resolve escalated client concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Develop and train associate attorneys to improve their trial advocacy skills.

Operations Manager

  • Monitor staff-level employee performance in collaboration with the Office Manager.
  • Develop and refine practice area systems and procedures.
  • Pursue new efficiencies and automation on a continuing basis.
  • Evaluate and adopt legal technological tools to enhance case management and document automation.
  • Develop, implement, and manage operational budgets to ensure profitability.
  • Analyze financial performance and recommend strategies for revenue growth and cost control.
  • Oversee billing practices to maintain consistent cash flow and reduce outstanding receivables.
  • Identify and select vendors for office supplies, legal research tools, and case management software.
  • Negotiate contracts and oversee vendor performance to meet operational goals.

Core Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school (Required)
  • Admission to the state bar and in good standing (Alabama Required)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience managing a legal department or small to mid-size law firm
  • Demonstrated experience in personal injury, family law, and/or probate litigation, including court appearances and client representation (7-10 years required)
  • Experience overseeing case management, budgets, and staff performance
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and client relationship skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and empathy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Track record of generating revenue and improving profitability
  • Familiarity with legal technology, CRM, and case management software (e.g., Clio)
  • Strategic thinker with a problem-solving mindset 
  • Also licensed to practice law in GA

Job Type: Full-time; In-Person/Remote Hybrid

Compensation:

  • Base Annual Salary: $120,000 - $165,000
  • 401(k) Contribution: 4% match
  • KPI Bonuses: Eligible for $15,000
  • Profit-Sharing: 2.5% of Firm annual profit
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Coverage

Year 1 Compensation Package Estimated Value*: $160,700

*Total Compensation estimate is based on Firm achievement of FY2025 revenue goal. Excludes value of Health Insurance coverage.

Schedule:

  • Choose your own hours, on-site as needed for trial settings and management duties. Significant remote work flexibility. Minimum of one full day in office per week for in-person management and oversight of team and facilities. 

Ability to Relocate:

  • Oxford, AL 36203: Relocation not required. Must be able to drive to the office and to trial settings once or more per week, as needed.
